Working with SENSATION in the FAMILY SYSTEM

19. - 21. November 2010

discovering the vital and transferred self

Child development is closely related to the social environment of the child as provided by the parents, the siblings and relevant other persons in the family history. In the homeopathic treatment of children, the exploration of hidden and unconscious factors that may influence health is of great significance.

Therefore one must consider not only apparent symptoms, but also the child's relationships with members of the family circle in search for the right similium. Moreover, the child will often attempt to take on the burden of the parent on him or herself, resulting in ailments that derive from situational factors rather than from actual physical circumstances.

Dynamics between parents and children

For the homeopath treating mothers, children and adults whose ailments are rooted in childhood, an understanding of both the developmental processes in children and the reaction of the parents to the child's gradual separation of him/herself from the parents, is essential in finding the right similium for illnesses correlated to growth and development.

During one's lifetime, every individual develops one or more weak point, sometimes related to miasms, sometimes not. These weak points may be caused by an obstruction or hindrance in development, thus causing illness. The symptoms of the illness often direct the therapist towards the developmental problem. But sometimes a weak point may derive from an outside source, the family constellation and the family history being one example. Hence, next to analyzing the mental and physical symptoms, when treating children the therapist must keep an eye open for clues about the parental situation.

Understanding development in depth helps to “view” the patient as a complete homeopathic picture when looking for the right similium as a remedy in the treatment. For the therapist this means creating a personal vision based not only on pathology and material medica, but also on the context of the patient. The child's symptoms can easily reflect part of the parent/child relationship, either in a positive or negative way. The child's symptoms may reflect the unconscious situation in the parents or other family members, such as siblings or even grandparents. The homeopathic remedy should therefore address both the child's symptoms as well as the parents' situation on a conscious or unconscious level.

Hence, the healing process must include reviewing the position of the child in the family context. A solid treatment of the child requires the observation of the family and the positioning of each family member. Observing hidden and suppressed sensations will deliver insight into the real problem, and so show the road toward the remedy needed and the path toward health. The right remedy will help the problem surface into the conscious level, thus enabling the start of the healing process.

“The child’s symptoms may reflect the unconscious situation”

Alize will teach about the “human-remedies”: Amniotic fluid, Placenta, Folliculinum and maybe others.

On Friday- and/or Saturday-night we will have a trituration. Please announce in advance whether you like to participate.

Biography

Alize initially graduated as a research assistant in Biochemistry. In 1980 she graduated at the Academy of Naturopathy in Amsterdam with special emphasis on Nutrition, Astrology and Classical Homoeopathy. From '84 until '87 she completed the international teacher training courses of George Vithoulkas and Vassilis Ghegas in Greece and England. Alize founded the Hahnemann Institute of the Netherlands in 1988. From the start the Institute attracted leading Homoeopaths to teach in Holland, so a long queue of colleagues was introduced to the Dutch Homoeopathic Scene. Among these were Rajan Sankaran, Jonathan Shore, Jeremy Sherr, Jane Cicchetti, Misha Norland and many others. Together with Misha, Alize started an international working group of teachers, coming together once a year for four days to discuss recent developments in Homoeopathy and Homoeopathic teaching. In Holland, the Hahnemann Institute is an established Institute, offering, in addition to the seminars, in-service courses and a Master class program including a one-year stage in the Homoeopathic Clinic in The Hague. Alize is the rare example of the combination of a great Homoeopath, a gifted teacher and an interested, attentive person.
